Zvents Announces Results of New Year's Eve Survey

San Mateo, CA, Dec. 10, 2009 - Zvents, the leading producer of entertainment guides online, today announced the results of their New Year's Eve consumer survey. The survey results highlight regional differences in attitudes and behaviors and reinforce growing sentiment that the economy might be taking a turn for the better.

Across all markets, more than half the people surveyed said they were more likely to go out this New Year's Eve compared to the previous year.

The East Coast Plans to Party
People in New York are planning to go out at the highest rate this New Year's Eve, with 70% reporting they intend to make plans outside their home. That compares to just 50% in Texas and 52% in California.

By region, the percent of respondents planning to go out this New Year's Eve:

  • Northeast- 60%
  • West- 50%
  • South- 47%
  • Midwest- 42%

Age Matters Most
Age certainly plays a factor. More than 72% of people 25 yrs or younger are planning to go out this year, compared to only 39% of seniors.

By age group, the percent of respondents planning to go out this New Year's Eve:

  • 25 yrs old or younger - 72% are planning to go out this New Years Eve
  • Parents with kids - 37% are planning to go out this New Years Eve
  • Seniors - 39% are planning to go out this New Years Eve

So what is everyone planning to do this year? The most popular activities for people 25 yrs or younger are going to a party with friends (40%), going out dancing (17%) or going to a restaurant (10.4%).

Parents of young children are primarily planning to attend a community or faith-based event this New Year's Eve (27%) but many (18%) are planning to go out dancing or to a club.

Seniors are more likely to plan their evening around a restaurant or hotel event (27%) or they are planning to go out dancing (12%).

The New Year's Eve consumer survey conducted by Zvents assessed the intended behaviors and attitudes of 848 visitors to the Zvents Media Network. The survey was conducted in November and December 2009.
